BEng(Curtin) OR BEng(Hons)(Curtin), BBA(Curtin)
Introduction
This is a five year double degree designed for prospective engineers who intend to work in management roles in both the private and public sectors. Double degree graduates are expected to be in demand by technology-based businesses and entrepreneurial enterprises. This course provides a strong foundation of core units and allows students to select optional units from electrical, computer systems or electronic and communication engineering. On completion of the double degree program, students are awarded both the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) and the Bachelor of Business Administration degrees.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
TEE Calculus, Applicable Mathematics and Physics. Well-performed candidates without one of the prerequisite subjects may be accepted and required to undertake an additional program of preparatory studies.
Specific Requirements
A current certificate of successful completion of an approved course in first aid is required before a degree will be awarded. To satisfy professional requirements, students must complete at least 12 weeks of approved work experience associated with engineering in industry. Students may make their own arrangements for employment or seek the assistance of the University's Careers and Prospective Students Service. The STAT is not accepted for entry to these courses.
Note
In certain cases, the need to complete preparatory studies may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is of five years full-time study. It is not available part-time.
Course Organisation
Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.
Professional Recognition
The Bachelor of Engineering meets the academic requirements for Graduate Membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
Career Opportunities
Double degree graduates are expected to be in demand by technology-based businesses and entrepreneurial enterprises.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
