190006 v.4 Graduate Diploma in Business
GradDipBus(Curtin)
Introduction
This course is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in a field other than business, commerce or economics, or equivalent, and who wish to develop an understanding of the basic functional areas of business. A typical student undertaking the course is one who holds a degree in a technical field but whose work activities have become progressively more management related and less dependent upon technical expertise. The course provides a broad coverage of a core of business related subjects. A 70 per cent average on four units is generally required for entry to the Master of Business Administration. Those students who wish to develop further expertise in a specific functional area should proceed to a Postgraduate Diploma in Business or to complete the Master of Commerce degree following completion of the graduate diploma course.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution in a field other than business, commerce or economics, or equivalent qualification plus a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. A limited number of applicants without a recognised degree or equivalent, but whose post secondary education or training and work experience indicates that they would benefit and be able to contribute effectively to the course may be admitted. Applicants in this category may be required to attend an interview and should complete the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Students with waivers may select other appropriate foundation or business environment units from the Master of Business Administration or an additional optional Graduate Diploma introductory unit.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is of two semesters or trimesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. It is presented mostly in trimesters, allowing full-time students to complete the course in eight months. Trimester dates are available from the Graduate School of Business.
