Introduction
This course develops a professional level of practice in the design and manufacture of contemporary jewellery and associated products. Skills developed in conceptualising design ideas for industry - rendering, drafting, computer technology (CAD modelling and rendering) and production skills. Theoretical studies develop an informed awareness of the contemporary art movement, enhancing design ability. The course is also enriched by visiting artists and craftspeople and the Artist-in-Residence program.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability
The course is three years full-time time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation
The first year program provides skills such as computer graphics, photography, technical drawing and freehand perspective drawing. An introduction to theory units of visual culture. A studio-based project for jewellery design is undertaken. Second year develops the jewellery design process and introduces skills such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) and modelling. Skills in technical drawing, rendering and photography are progressed. Theoretical studies continue in visual culture for the third and final year. Third year emphasises consolidating ideas and skills to develop autonomy of practice in the form of a professional internship, work documentation, catalogue production and exhibition concept planning and installation.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
