Introduction (HB)
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) offered through the Curtin Graduate School of Business (CGSB) is an award winning, internationally accredited and internationally ranked program. In November 2009 it won the prestigious Australian Learning and Teaching Council award for post-graduate programs that enhance learning. The MBA is internationally ranked by the Economist Intelligence Unit (only 4 Australian MBA programs are in the global top 100) and internationally accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBAs). The Master of Business Administration (Advanced) is a sixteen (16) unit (or 400 credit point) degree combining the business acumen of the 12 unit (300 credit point) MBA with advanced units in leadership and ethics for students in senior and executive roles dealing with complex organisational and leadership challenges. The CGSB is renowned for teaching excellence and as a school caters to an exclusive market of post-experienced managers and senior managers. It has particular strengths in strategy, leadership, energy and resources.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A bachelor degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or equivalent, and at least three years relevant work experience. Selection, which is competitive, will be based on a range of information including grades achieved in previous study, referee reports, relevance of work experience, career aspirations, a 500 word candidate supplied application statement and an interview. Applicants are also required to submit two referee reports and. Applicants with three or more years of relevant work experience and who have completed an undergraduate qualification, or who have completed four units of the Graduate Certificate in Business with an average grade of 70 per cent or better, may apply to be considered for entry to the Master of Business Administration (Advanced). To graduate with a Master of Business Administration (Advanced) students must complete 400 credit points and a minimum of 40 hours of professional development.
Specific Requirements
The Graduate Board of Examiners requires, unless there are exceptional circumstances, that those with more than two failures in the course or more than four units with grades below 60 per cent be excluded from the course, so as to maintain the high standard expected of such a prestigious qualification.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability (HB)
This course is six trimesters, or two calendar years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Availability of units and work commitments may increase the course duration. The course may be completed internally or with a mix of both internal and online study. International onshore students on student visas are not permitted to study fully online. Intermediate Awards I (HB)
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply.
Intermediate Awards II (HB)
Graduate Certificate in Business.
Additional Course Expenses (HB)
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
