This course provides students with agribusiness management and marketing education and training combined with technical training in principles of viticulture, grape and wine production, wine making and sensory evaluation. This double degree is an opportunity to maximise Western Australia's competitive advantage by meeting the need for graduates with a complete understanding of the supply chain. The course combines key viticultural and wine science units with sensory evaluation and marketing, finance, andbusiness management units. The learning model enables students to gain skills in communication, teamwork and skills which will enable them to assume leadership roles within the wine industry as well as in the broader agribusiness sector.
None. TEE mathematics and chemistry are desirable. Able candidates without prerequisite subjects may be accepted and required to complete approved bridging units.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
The course covers key areas of wine production including the relationships between grape and wine quality, combined with wine marketing, finance and agribusiness planning. The double degree is a four- year course offered by the Muresk Institute. The first 2 years are delivered at the Bentley campus, with the last 2 years of the 4 year program delivered from the Margaret River campus. The course content includes the soils, grape and wine production, business management and marketing aspects of viticulture. In addition students study wine production, wine science and wine evaluation
Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute Agricultural Science [AIAIS]
Graduates will find employment with industries associated with the supply chain of the wine industry, including winemakers, in production viticulture, or the service and support industries of the viticulture and wine industries including vineyard input suppliers, grape and wine marketing and sales, and as consultants and advisers.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
