Syllabus: | The primary intention of this component is to explore various aspects of the fundamentals of typographic design. Students will experiment, through exercises, the design principles of negative/positive relationships and scale as it pertains to contrast and asymmetry, symmetry, cropping, repetition, economy and contrast of shape, size colour and direction. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Understood the infinite number of solutions that can be generated through typography. Developed basic skills by experimenting with type within parameters of specific design principles. Developed a confidence in using typography to solve specific design problems. Encourage students to work exclusively typographic layouts. Reinforced the process of design from thumbnails to half sizes. Encouraged refinement of hierarchy on a page. Developed the ability to make appropriate font choices. |
