Syllabus:

Concept of holistic health and primary health care. Principles and practice of primary health care within a context of indigenous ways of duty of care, accountability, ethics and law. History taking and assessment skills to determine the health status offamily members - elderly, adult and teenager. Strategies to assist families to be responsible for their own health, identify health issues and explore options for well being. Develop realistic goals for healthy living. Be self-directed in obtaining optimal health.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Described the concept of holistic health and primary health care. Applied the principles of primary health care in various indigenous settings. Assessed the health status of family members. Assisted families to identify issues and explore options for well-being. Assisted families to develop realistic goals to improve healthy living. Promoted the capabilities of families to be self-directed in obtaining optimal health.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Reporting (History and assessment of elderly, adult, teenager and child stages), Assignment (Develop and explain a paradigm of holistic health), Project (Select a family and using primary health care principles and indigenous ways of... and identifying health issues), Journal writing. Students must obtain a 50% grade in each assessment unit to achieve a Pass grade. This is by Pass/Fail Assessment.
