Syllabus: | Equilibrium and rate processes. Staged and continuous contact processes. McCabe-Thiele and Ponchon-Savarit methods of design for the unit operations of distillation. Solvent extraction. Leaching. Gas absorption and humidification. The two resistance model for mass transfer, transfer coefficients and units. Column internals, packing and their characteristics. |
|
Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have knowledge on theoretical and practical aspects of separation processes, including a study of basic mass transfer concepts and the determination of basic design parameters. |
