Syllabus:

Chemistry of some industrial processes. The economic aspects of the industry. Process flow sheeting. Units, dimensions and conversions, states of matter, physical properties and phase equilibrium, process mass balances, recycle, purge, bypass, thermophysical properties, process energy balances, chemical reactions and equilibrium, thermochemical data, reaction and combustion, conversion and efficiency, combined material and energy balances, differential material and energy balances.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit the student will be able to draw and understand the basis of chemical process flow sheets. An ability to quantitatively analyse any chemical process and be able to systematically do both material and energy balances for simple or more complex chemical processes.
