Syllabus: | Legal research and reasoning. Policies of tort liability. Negligence - standard of care, duty of care. Specific situations, affirmative actions, physical damage, nervous shock, economic loss, negligent words, causation and remoteness, assessment of damages and defences, professional negligence, intentional infliction of purely economic loss. Defamation. Nuisance. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - An introduction to a range of different torts, all of which have implications for anyone in business. An appreciation of the policies of tort liability. An understanding of the elements of a range of different torts that impact on professionals in business. An ability to read and analyse cases. An ability to think critically and logically when presented with a case study. |
