Syllabus: | Transport phenomena and Ionic electrochemistry. Conductivity, mobility, transport numbers. Potentiometry. Electrochemical cells. Surface chemistry - General principles relating to surfaces. The liquid state. Solid-gas interface. Liquid-vapour and liquid-liquid interfaces. Solid-liquid interface. Applications of surface chemistry. |
  |
Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have developed a rigorous knowledge of physicochemistry in the specific fields of electrochemistry and surface chemistry and will be able to use kinetics and thermodynamics theory to rationalize the dynamic and steady-state behaviour of chemical systems. They will have gained an appreciation of the principles of surface chemistry and understand its relevance in important industrial applications, and an ability to employ practical expertise in physical chemistry to undertake reliable and robust experiments that may be used in practical problem solving situations within the chemical profession. |
