Syllabus:

Complex numbers. Functions of several variables. Partial derivatives. Vector functions and space curves. Gradient and directional derivatives. Maxima and minima. Lagrange multipliers. Ordinary, first and second order differential equations and modelling. Numerical solution of using Euler and Runge-Kutta methods. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors and applications. Systems of first order differential equations.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have basic skills in the algebra of matrices and vector spaces; Basic skills in the analytical solution of ordinary differential equations and understanding of their uses in real applications; Numericalskills in approximating solutions of ordinary differential equations.
