Course Overview
Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications.
Interior designers, as qualified professionals in Interior Architecture, design quality environments for a diverse range of users and functions. They coordinate the design and construction of building interiors including commercial, workplace, hospitality, medical, gallery, and retail environments. In addition, interior designers may be involved with more transient environments and the associated displays for trade fairs, exhibitions, museums, and public events. Their skills and knowledge are also utilised for adaptive reuse of existing buildings and conservation of significant sites. Interior designers require skills and understanding in all aspects of design, including technical knowledge of interior construction, equipment and building systems. They must also exercise ability in communication and administrative skills. The degree also provides a sound basis for more specialised careers and study in areas such as furniture or set design, education and/or research.
Professional Recognition
The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) admits graduates to the licentiateship after commencing professional practice and then to full associate membership after a submission of a professional folio of work.
Career Opportunities
Interior designers find employment as independent interior design consultants, within interior design practices, as facility managers for large corporations, within architectural firms or, in some instances, working for organisations specialising in specific areas such as lighting design or furniture design and in design education.

Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Bachelor Degree are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au and include flexible entry pathways. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Non-TEE students will need to apply for an interview with the Course Coordinator of Interior Architecture by no later than 1 December, however applicants are advised to do this as soon as possible. Non-TEE students are required to submit a portfolio at the time of the interview. STAT elements considered are E, and either V or Q.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Pathway to Further Study
Graduates with a Bachelor Degree may qualify for entry to some Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas and Master by Coursework degrees. Work Experience: minimum of 10 days to be undertaken before graduation.
Course Organisation
Bachelor Degrees typically contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors, streams and/or minors for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. identify, explain and apply the disciplinary concepts in interior architecture
2. develop creative practices and ways of building knowledge that are critical and reflective
3. synthesise and manage information from various media to inform the processes related to interior architecture and evaluate its use in design solutions
4. select and use effective and appropriate visual, spoken, written, graphic and technical communication techniques to a range of audiences
5. select from a range of available technologies to use appropriate to interior architecture
6. adapt and respond to new ways of learning and global interaction to develop a self-directed approach
7. develop awareness and sensitivity around community and its role in Interior Architecture with particular attention to context and global differences in perceptions and interpretations of concepts and practice
8. recognise and include concepts of social sustainability, social equity and cultural diversity into interior architecture
9. work independently and collaboratively demonstrating relevant professional and ethical practices
