This major focuses on social, political and economic transformations, particularly those in developing nations. It is intended to equip students with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to pursue careers in national and international government, non-government and private agencies which have a focus on community development, aid and social justice. It also examines a range of development theories, including early modernisation theory, dependency theories and world system theories, as wellas more recent postmodernist critiques of development theories. Themes covered include rural and urban development and post-colonial development in the Asia-Pacific region.
