Social change and uneven development. Theories of social change, modernisation, development and underdevelopment, dependency and imperialism. Nationalism, the nation state and revolutionary change. Capitalist, socialist and mixed models of development. Social structure and development. Aid, finance and development. Agrarian change. Women, production and development. Famine, health and welfare. Culture, communications and development. Case studies.
