This course provides a wide range of opportunities in the Resources Industry, with its Majors providing specific skills for different sectors of the Resources Industry. Graduates typically find employment in Australia and overseas, with exploration and mining companies, consultants, and government departments involved with the Worls Resources Industry. It is also possible for graduates to seek employment within the construction and civil industries. The first two years are offered at the Bentley campus. The Major in Mining Technology is offered at the Kalgoorlie Campus, while the other three Majors are offered at the Bentley Campus.
TEE Discrete mathematics or its equivalent. TER : 70 or equivalent.
Stat elements considered are E and Q.
The course is three years full-time or equivalent part time study.
The first two years of this course has a multidisciplinary approach by offering core units from geology, mining, GIS and geophysics, together with traditional science and mathematics units. Units in communication skills and mining and society provide strength in communication and cultural awareness. The third year provides a Major to specialise in one particular area of interest in the Resources Industry. The majors are quite different in their particular unit requirements. Students will normally seek relevant work experience during their summer vacation periods to gain practical experience in the Resources Industry.
Graduates from the course will normally be employed in the Resources Industry, in a variety of fields and at various levels of responsibility. Career opportunities have been consistently strong, but are subject to cyclical events.
