Advantages of electron microscopy, interaction of electrons with solids and basic design of the transmission electron microscope (TEM). Modes of operation of a TEM. Basic designs of the scanning electron microscope and the electron probe micro analyser and detectors. Signal processing - X-ray analysis, wavelength and energy dispersive spectrometers and X-ray mapping. |
