Syllabus: |
Molecular biology of prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Molecular basis of disease. Recombinant DNA technology in medicine - cloning, sequencing and synthesis, gene probes as diagnostic reagents and DNA fingerprinting, polymerase chain reaction in clinical diagnostics, human pharmaceuticals - microbes, protein engineering, designer drugs and recombinant vaccines. Transgenics and gene therapy, social and legal aspects. Consists of five topics which examine techniques used in biotechnology. The five topics are enzymes, vectors and applications, southern blotting and applications, polymerase chain reaction and applications - genetic libraries, construction, use and identification of clones including sequencing and use of radioactive substances. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
