Syllabus:

Examines a range of recent Australian scripts as literature, blueprints for performance, ideological statements and reflections of Australia at various stages of its recent history. Nationalist, Aboriginal, feminist, gay and lesbian voices are represented in the selection of scripts. Of interest to anyone wanting to know Australia better as well as those with a stronger commitment to theatre or literary studies. Provides local dimensions to gender, racial, historical and literary topics. Structured so that students will have opportunities to pursue their personal enthusiasms and interests as well as suggesting areas that will provide opportunities for further research. Students will be introduced to major areas of critical theory such as postcolonial, feminist and queer theory.
