Syllabus: |
An interdisciplinary unit combining post-colonial theory and film theory in examining recent Australian cinema. A grounding in post-colonial theory leads to its application and development in the more specific context of reading film. Students are encouraged to consider indigenous, white settler and migrant perspectives as they are produced and represented filmically, and to search for more specific cultural perspectives. In doing so students are able to consider the extent to which recent Australian cinema has resisted and been constrained by cultural and filmic conventions. |
