Principles of mass spectrometer operation. Ion optics, ion sources, mass dispersion and detectors. Dataacquisition. Measurement of isotopic abundance. Automation. Isotope dilution and measurements of amount substance. Automation. Isotope dilution and measurements of amount substance. Introduction to modern mass spectrometers including TIMS and SHRIMP. A selection of modern applications in fields such as health science, environmental science, nuclear science, geoscience, planetary science, nucleoastrophysics and metrology.
