This course is designed for those seeking to develop an understanding of creative screen production in the current environment through the development of critical and analytical understandings as well as practical and professional skills orientated towards a career in film and television or a related area such as digital game creation, animation, multimedia or education. During the course, students will also develop generic skills that are valuable in a range of situations, including leadership, problem-solving and working collaboratively in a team. Participants are encouraged to apply and test these skills and understandings through applied practice in the form of a professional film, television or screen production project.
A bachelors degree or equivalent in any discipline from a recognised institution, preferably with more than three years industry or professional experience, or a Graduate Diploma in Film and Television from Curtin, with a satisfactory performance that will contribute towards the masters qualification.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
One and a half years full-time study or part-time equivalent, available internally only.
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course appear below.
Graduate Diploma in Film and Television.
The course consists of coursework units in both theoretical and practical aspects of screen production and analysis which lead to a major project in which students take on a particular role in the production process. Many coursework units involve individual assessment, while practical production activities are usually undertaken as a member of a group.
Graduates generally anticipate finding employment in the film and television industry, either locally, nationally or internationally, as the skills and abilities developed by students during the course are readily transportable around the world.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
