This statistics minor is designed to give a student in the applied mathematics major stream a well-rounded education in mathematics and statistics. In many real world problems, the need to analyse data and interpret experimental results in an informed manner requires a good knowledge of statistics. In some problems, the distinction between applied mathematics and statistics is pretty artificial and expertise in both areas is often sought by employers. Statisticians are in strong demand by Australian industry.
