This course is designed for those students who already hold a degree but have no computing background. It is also designed for those with extensive business management or supervisory experience without a first degree. The graduate certificate program will assist students who need to acquire skills and knowledge in the planning and development of information systems in organisations. The course is of a practical nature, which will assist students to consolidate their learning by applying their knowledge and skills in the business environment.
An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a non-computing discipline. Applicants who do not posses a recognised degree or equivalent but whose post-secondary education or training and work experience indicates they would benefit from the course and would be able to contribute effectively to the course may sit the GMAT or other prescribed entrance test to be considered for entry. Applicants in this category are required to have a minimum of seven years business experience in a management or supervisoryrole. Applicants must provide evidence of their industry experience.
No exemptions or recognition of prior learning will be given, although units may be substituted at the School's discretion. Other units may be approved by the Manager Postgraduate Programs.
The course is six months full-time or equivalent part-time study.
This course consists of four full units of study. The areas studied include systems analysis and design, introduction to programming, database systems, internet computing and technical infrastructure.
Graduates generally find employment with business organisations and government agencies.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
