This course provides a broad research foundation to enable scholarly research advancing nursing theory with the capacity to guide practice. The course is a collaborative program between Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH) and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Applicants must be currently registered or eligible for registration with the Nurses Board of Western Australia, with a nursing degree or equivalent and a minimum of 18 months post-registration clinical experience with a minimum of six months continuous practice in an acute care setting. Selection is based on academic performance, appropriate communication and interpersonal skills and high standards of nursing care. Registered nurses without a tertiary qualification must meet established criteria for thealternative mode of entry into graduate studies.

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Applicants who have successfully completed the hospital based component will receive recognition of prior learning for Paediatric Nursing 551.
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. As most units are offered only once in each year and in the required sequence of study, there is some limitation of choice for those studying part-time.
Students complete the advanced nursing practice component of this course within an approved hospital and or agency course.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
