The course provides a broad research foundation to enable scholarly research which will advance nursing theory and have the capacity to guide practice. The course is a collaborative program between Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Applicants must be a currently registered nurse or eligible for registration with the Nurses Board of Western Australia, hold a nursing degree or equivalent, have a minimum of three years post-registration clinical experience with at least six months in the designated specialised area, provide evidence of a satisfactory academic record and appropriate communications and interpersonal skills. Registered nurses without a tertiary qualification must meet established criteria for the alternative mode of entry into graduate studies.
Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Police Screening and Clearance sections of this publication.
Students who have successfully completed the hospital based component will receive recognition of prior learning/exemption for the unit Nursing 511 - Critical Care Nursing.
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or two years part-time study. As most units are offered only once in each year and in the required sequence of study, there is some limitation of choice for part-time study.
Students complete the advanced nursing practice component of this course within an approved hospital or agency course.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
