Syllabus:

Unit operations - distillation, evaporation, drying, comminution, crystallisation, precipitation. Drug extraction and galenicals. Formulation and uses of official liquid products. Alcohol and proof spirit. Oral powders, capsules, external powders. Dermatologicals - ointments, pastes, gels, liniments, paints, collodions. Pharmaceutical packaging. Introduction to prescriptions.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Had an introduction to the elements of pharmaceutical practice including ethical and legal responsibilities. Been introduced to basic pharmaceutical processes and techniques. Had an introduction to commonly used formulations.
