Syllabus:

Examines theoretical and practical aspects of workplace conflict management including - negotiation, bargaining, conciliation, advocacy, mediation and problem solving. Emphasis is placed on management of disputes and issues at the workplace level. Opportunity is provided for practical skill development in these processes.
 

Unit Outcomes:

At the completion of this unit students will be able to understand the concepts and theories relating to conflict, interpersonal communication, bargaining and negotiation and power. Understand and implement the essential elements of the processes pertinent to conflict management such as negotiation, mediation, advocacy, disciplining, working with groups and running meetings. Recognise and discuss the behavioural skills in interpersonal communication - negotiation, persuasion, assertiveness, meetings, interviews and advocacy. Develop and conduct procedures for the management of conflict at the workplace level, including interviews, grievance procedures and committees. Recognise and implement programs and processes to ensure ethics and global diversity areaccepted and practiced in the workplace.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Students must undertake all assessment components. Students must pass the final exam to pass the unit. Exam 40%. Groupwork/Presentation 30%. Mid Term Test 30%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
