Syllabus:

Clinical practice, policies, protocols. Competency standards, professional guidelines, portfolio, registration. Accountability, law, ethics, cultural security, social justice. Diagnostic process, clinical decision-making. Assessment, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, quality use of medicines, management chronic and self-limiting acute disease. Interdisciplinary collaboration, communication. Referral, clinical leadership and management. Integration of research evidence into practice.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Applied and integrated content from previous units within the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Specialisation (Nurse Practitioner). Synthesized theory and clinical knowledge as a foundation for managing physical and emotional health issues. Demonstrated critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision-making. Assessed, diagnosed, treated, managed, monitored, and coordinated primary health, acute and chronic health needs of clients over time and the lifespan. Provided holistic, continuous, comprehensive and individualized health care to clients and families across the lifespan. Practiced collaboratively with interdisciplinary members of the health care team. Utilized currentprofessional literature and research in assessment, diagnosis, and management of client health needs. Analysed quality of own nurse practitioner practice.
