Syllabus:

Exploration of the meaning of community, the role of the Internet in providing opportunities for virtual communities, the focus on 'community' within the Internet industry. Professional interaction through networked technology, enabling you to become a skilled leader and organiser of communities, partnerships and teams in a virtual realm.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to- Participate in virtual communities as leaders and managers. Understand the socio-technological dynamics of internet-based communications as relating to virtual communities. Understand theories of social networking to understand the way communities operate. Understand the historical contexts of the term 'community' and its application to ICTs.
