Syllabus:

Application of the general principles learned in Information Studies 203 - Information Design, to the retrieval of the resources of libraries and information centres. It provides the opportunity to develop skills in the use of library cataloguing codes and classification schemes and in the construction of specialist subject retrieval systems.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will be able to - Choose appropriate standards to apply to various information services. Describe and index resources using standard schemas and coding systems. Create a thesaurus classification scheme in a chosen subject. Evaluate the effectiveness of computer-mediated indexing.
