Syllabus: | Extension of knowledge and skills in individual and group work to couples and family therapy. Focus on the family lifecycle and family of origin influences, and their impact on couple and family relationships. Development of knowledge and skills in couple and family assessment and interventions. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have demonstrated - A critical understanding of the major dimensions of family functioning, family systems, and the major models of family therapy. Demonstrated a critical understanding of the key issues in working with couples, and the rationale for intervention strategies across key models. Demonstrated a framework for intervention with a couple and/or family. Demonstrated a critical understanding of relationship dynamics with regard to major issues such as domestic violence, stepfamilies, extra-partnership affairs etc. Applied a preventative or wellness orientation related to life span issues. |
