Syllabus:

Oral health education - theory, factors affecting health and behaviour, behaviour and dental health, health behaviour models, opportunities, effectiveness. Educational principles - models of education learning, motivation, topics for target groups, presentation methods, techniques, lesson plans, aids, evaluation. Nutrition, diet analysis and counseling for dental patients. Specific areas of prevention.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have - Planned, produced, delivered and evaluated a dental health education class for one of the main dental target groups. Critically reviewed scientific journal articles and synthesised the results into a research assignment. Demonstrated an understanding of the theoretical basis for planning and evaluating a health promotion campaign. Demonstrated an understanding of research findings about one to one dental health education as carried out in privatepractice.
