Syllabus: | Participation in a professional preparation program designed to meet the Speech Pathology Association of Australia entry level competency-based occupational standards. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Develop professional skills and independence in the assessment and management of individuals with communication and swallowing impairments. Demonstrate increasing professional independence in assessment and intervention with a range of paediatric and adult clients who present with a variety of communication and/or swallowing disorders. Gain a range of experience in clinical settings (eg. Community, educational, hospital), clinical caseload,clinical populations (eg. Disorders of language, speech, swallowing, voice, fluency), models of intervention or service delivery. Conduct routine audiological screening procedures. Develop problem solving skills through the application of theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. Achieve increased competency in report writing and clinical administration, including caseload management. Develop self-evaluation skills through the establishment of individual learning goals and the critical evaluation of personal clinical performance. Experience different models of clinical education. Develop professional socialization, eg. Ethical behaviour, management skills. |

Unit Assessment Breakdown: | This unit is by pass/fail assessment. Students must attend all scheduled clinical placements as well as weekly seminars. In order to pass this unit, students must pass the following assessments - Demonstrate entry level competence in CBOS Competencies (units 1-7) with an overall pass for each clinical placement. Achieve a Pass mark for a video case study exam and seminar presentation. |
