Syllabus: | Participation in a professional preparation program designed to meet the Speech Pathology Association of Australia entry level competency-based occupational standards. (Units 1-4). |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit the student will - Have developed professional skills and independence in the assessment and management of individuals with communication or swallowing impairments. Meet CBOS units 1-4 including the assessment and/orspace management of an adult client with an acquired communication disorder, fluency disorder or swallowing disorder and the assessment and/or management of a paediatric client with a developmental communication disorder, fluency disorder or swallowing disorder. Conduct independent research using Internet and CD ROM resources to access information that is relevant to solving clinical problems presented as cases and scenarios. Adhere to scientific principles and apply theoretical knowledge to solve clinical problems presented as cases and scenarios. Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with peers to solve clinical problems presented as cases and scenarios. Discuss, evaluate and apply theory and research in the diagnostic assessment, intervention and management of developmental and acquired stuttering disorders. Develop the skills needed to convey information about stuttering disorders to a diverse range of interested parties. |
