Syllabus:

Introduction to the advanced study of scientific methodology. Planning and designing research, advanced statistical techniques, philosophy of science, the role of research reviews, developing and writing research proposals.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Critically analyse research designs used in the human communication sciences. Analyse, evaluate and report on the current scientific status of a key area of research in the human communication sciences. Extend their ability to make and critically evaluate oral and written arguments relating to scientific discourse. Develop and write a research proposal for a small project which can be completed in the duration of one academic year.
