Introduction
This course offers the chance to develop skills and knowledge in two or more related fields of study at the intersection of media, information and new communications technologies. Contextual study of the history, theory, ethics and criticism of the various practices, institutions and discourses in media, communication and information. The course provides the foundation skills and knowledge for work in the corporate media and information field, with considerable breadth of expertise. Fields of study can be chosen from - Film and Television, Internet Policy and Culture, Journalism, Advertising Design, Internet Design, Marketing, Multimedia, Photography, and Public Relations.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Applicants must meet the University's standard entry requirements.
Specific Requirements
While not a formal requirement for entry, students are encouraged to have basic computing skills. STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning may be awarded for some units on the basis of substantial, relevant work experience, completed studies in vocational training or completion of undergraduate units in previous study. All applications are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This course is three year full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available in a flexible mode and can be studied off-campus or with limited campus attendance. Most Internet units are available off-campus and require regular and reliable Internet access. Because some other units involve hands-on production work in radio, print and television journalism and film and television production, you may need to make a substantial time commitment on-campus, sometimes outside normal business hours.
Course Organisation
This course consists of four equal sections - each containing six units - a core, a first stream, a second stream and electives.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
