130110 v.4 Bachelor of Business Administration

BBA (Curtin)

Introduction
This program provides school leavers with a general course in business administration and is well suited to those seeking to attain professional expertise in the general management area. The program focuses on preparing managers for their challenging roles in a global environment, specifically preparing people for management roles in public or private sector organisations. Besides exposing students to various core disciplines in business, it offers them special opportunities such as - industry/organistion-based project work, the opportunity to apply these concepts to their own work environment, international study tours (students are able to gain an exposure and understanding of work in a different context) and the choice of specialising in an area such as one of the following - management, small business and entrepreneurship, human resource and international management. Those wishing to further their academic career may proceed to a specialist postgraduate program, eg marketing, educational administration, human resource management, international and/or public sector management.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
In addition to the usual entrance requirements, students are expected to have studied Discrete Mathematics or Applicable Mathematics.

Duration and Availability
This degree course is available on a full-time, part-time and, to a limited extent, external study basis. For full-time students, most classes are scheduled in the daytime, but evening attendance may be necessary for a few units. Full-time students can complete the degree in a minimum of six semesters (three years). Part-time students generally attend evening classes, but are encouraged to attend day classes if convenient. These students may complete the course in 12 semesters.

Course Organisation
This is a broad based program, which includes all the six common core units, with the first semester of first year being identical to that for the Bachelor of Commerce. The program includes a range of introductory functional disciplines, a series of specialist units emphasising decision making, human resource issues, international issues, work related projects and a minor or electives. Students are encouraged to enrol in electives from outside their main field of specialisation, including units from other Divisions - for example, language units.

Professional Recognition
The Curtin Business School's courses are designed wherever possible to conform with the membership standards of the relevant professional bodies with which students are likely to become associated after graduation. Most professional bodies have provisionfor student membership and students are advised to take advantage of such opportunities. For information on eligibility for membership of professional bodies refer to the Bachelor of Commerce.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
