Course Overview
Graduate Diplomas prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
This course is designed for graduates interested in the promotion of human health and welfare who wish to gain the professional skills associated with the identification, assessment, evaluation and control of environmental hazards. The course provides opportunities for professionals in environmental health, health and safety, environmental protection, health promotion and related professions to acquire knowledge and develop skills appropriate to the management of environmental health protection and safety in public, commercial, industrial and voluntary organisations. It also expands the knowledge and skills base of environmental health specialists and other graduates of science and related disciplines, enabling them to successfully adapt to the changing environmental health needs of communities.
Professional Recognition
The course is fully accredited by Environmental Health Australia (EHA) and also the Western Australian Environmental Health Officers Professional Review Board (WAEHOPRB). In Western Australia, the Western Australian Environmental Health Officer’s Professional Review Board (WAEHOPRB) requires that graduates who wish to be employed in Local Government as Environmental Health Officers and who do not have requisite work experience, to complete 100 hours of work placement. This will be organised by the course coordinator.

Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Graduate Diploma are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree in a related discipline. Consistent with the interdisciplinary nature of the course, a broad range of degrees are acceptable including public health, human biology, food technology, environmental science, biology, chemistry and allied health. Graduates with a degree from other disciplines may be admitted following successful completion of prescribed units.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Organisation
Graduate Diplomas contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study.
The Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health contains 8 core units. There are no optional units or electives offered.
Duration and Availability
This course is two semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. All units are offered online and 4 of the 8 units are also available for on-campus attendance.
