Syllabus: | This unit will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of hazard identification, dose -response assessment and risk characterisation. Students will implement risk assessments and evaluate hazards based on selected national and international examples. Principles and conduct of environmental health risk assessments form a central part of the unit content, along with concepts of risk management and factors affecting perceptions and acceptance of risk. Discussion of prevention, control measures and public safety will broaden and deepen students understanding of the field. Students will explore the uses and limitations of risk assessment and risk management in decision making along with the principles of public participation and risk communication. |
