305375 v.1 Master of Process Management

MProcMgnt(Curtin)

Introduction
It is recognised that a management dominated role is the long term function of many practising engineers and scientists working in process industries, and that the need for engineering oriented management skills increases with career development. It is equally clear that some graduate engineers and metallurgists have received only an introduction to management and hardly any process engineering topics at first degree level and that this should be used as a base for enhancement of management skills in process industries. To meet this objective, the Department of Chemical Engineering has developed the Master of Process Management program detailed below, providing a balance between process engineering and business skills.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A recognised degree in engineering or applied science at honours level, or completion of a recognised degree in engineering or applied science without honours but with relevant process industry experience since graduation. Candidates with an appropriate pass degree can be accepted at the discretion of the Head of Department but will be required to complete up to 12 full units over three semesters of full-time study (or part-time equivalent). Candidates must have a demonstrated proficiency in English where this is not the applicant's first language or where the qualification has not been attained by English language instruction.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation
As well as the core components, a total of six optional units are selected from Process Engineering and Industrial Management units. The project unit (ChE 596 Process Management Research Project) must be undertaken in the final year of the course.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
