Piping systems - Fluid flow/pipe friction, Mechanical design of piping systems. Valves. Prime movers. Seals and bearings. Pressure vessels. Foundation and structural design. Equipment design - rules of thumb, preliminary sizing, scale-up, mixing. Utilities - steam systems, water, instrument air, vacuum, plant gases, refrigeration systems. Supply systems considerations and design, utility specifications. Electrical power utility systems. Power factor and power calculations. Introduction to electromagnetism. Transformers, single and three-phase. Rotating magnetic fields, three-phase machines. Single-phase motors. Electric motors and plant equipment. Electrical machines, starting, safety, transients. Emergency power supplies. |
