Syllabus:Food source, metabolism and function of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, key vitamins and minerals in normal nutrition. Interrelationships of nutrient needs and metabolism. Laboratory work involving tests of nutritional status.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Demonstrated basic knowledge of nutrition. An understanding of the integration of facts concerning the nature of nutrients, their metabolism and physiological function with other biological sciences. Knowledge of the assessment of nutritional status.
