Introduction
This research doctorate covers the Science and Mathematics Education Centre's areas of research specialisation including gender issues, teaching and learning, classroom environment, constructivism, school leadership, assessment, curriculum and computing and technology education.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A Master degree in Science or Maths education, or a relevant honours degree (usually first or upper second class) together with a relevant qualification in education and work experience in education, or qualifications and background that warrants special consideration. Applicants may be interviewed as part of the admission process.
Duration and Availability
The course normally requires two to four years equivalent full-time study.
Course Organisation
This course is studied as a research degree. This means that at least two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and the remainder by coursework. The thesis follows Rule 10: Degree of Doctor by Research. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator, Science and Mathematics Education Centre. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This may increase the stated course duration.
