146004 v.2 Master of Sports Administration
Introduction
This course provides the theoretical foundations and techniques of sports administration, law and accounting together with practical business applications. It includes the study of a broad range of national and international sports organisations at both amateur, professional and Olympic levels, emphasising sponsorship, employment, safety and crowd control, get-up, venue selection and administration. International visa and travel requirements are also examined.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A bachelors degree in business, commerce or a related field from a recognised Australian tertiary institution, or equivalent qualification. Applicants are normally expected to have a minimum of two years relevant employment experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is of three semesters full-time duration or equivalent part-time study.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Sports Administration or Graduate Diploma in Sports Administration may apply for graduation in those awards subject to approval of the Head of School. Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for level 2 membership of the Australian Society of Sport Administrators (ASSA).
Career Opportunities
Graduates obtain employment in both the public and private sectors. Public sector employers are the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation, the Education Department and Local Government authorities. Private sector employers include large sports organisations and clubs and accounting firms. Graduates may also seek employment as managers of sports players and professional bodies.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
