Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas:
5 Years
This double degree course equips students to work in a professional capacity in both technical and business areas of the mining and energy industries through a strategic alliance between the Western Australian School of Mines and the Curtin Business School. In the engineering degree, students major in minerals engineering and in the commerce degree in management.
TEE Applicable Mathematics and Calculus. Physics is also required for the Mining Engineering or Mining Geology streams. Alternatively, chemistry is required for minerals engineering. High performing applicants without all prerequisites may still be considered.
STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.
In certain cases the need to complete special units may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This course is five years full-time or equivalent part-time study. The first four years, which focus primarily on engineering, are conducted by the Western Australian School of Mines (Bentley and Kalgoorlie) and the final year is conducted on the Bentley campus by the Curtin Business School.
Students must complete a minimum of two-fifths of the course in engineering, one-fifth of the course in commerce and two-fifths of the course in both engineering and commerce.
Curtin Business School courses are designed wherever possible to conform with the membership standards of the relevant professional bodies with which students are likely to become associated after graduation. Graduates should consult the Western Australian School of Mines regarding professional recognition of the engineering component of this course.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. Students are required to pay for their own food while on field trips or camps. Students should note that excursion expenses may apply to units within this course. A requirement for graduation is the successful completion of a Senior First Aid certificate for which payment is also required.
Curtin University reserves the right to alter the internal composition of any course to ensure learning outcomes retain maximum relevance. Any changes to the internal composition of a course will protect the right of students to complete the course within the normal timeframe and will not result in additional cost to students through a requirement to undertake additional units.
