Designed for those intending to extend their professional careers and move into higher levels of public relations decision-making within industry. Recent trends show there is an increased awareness of the need to analyse the business environment before informed public relations decisions can be made. Therefore, many organisations are looking for highly skilled senior public relations practitioners who have the ability to reduce uncertainty and risk in the decision-making process. As the marketplace becomes more volatile, many more firms will require highly skilled public relations strategists in their planning process. There is a significant demand, as indicated by discussion, with the relevant national and international professional bodies for a professional master degree qualification in public relations.
A bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution or an equivalent qualification with a minimum of two years work experience. Depending on their previous field of study, students may be required to complete one or more foundation units before commencing the first stage.
Candidates without sufficient background may be required to complete one or more of the following foundation units before commencing the first stage - Economics Analysis and Asian Economics 550, Electronic Commerce (Internet Functions and Facilities) 501, Information for Business Decisions 550, Organisational Behaviour 550.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award, may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course appear below.
Postgraduate Diploma in Business Public Relations
Designed to be offered during the normal semester time, however, there may be occasions where intensive modules may be offered. These units are not intended as substitutes to the normal teaching pattern but may assist students to accelerate the program if desired.
On completion graduates are eligible for membership to the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
Curtin University reserves the right to alter the internal composition of any course to ensure learning outcomes retain maximum relevance. Any changes to the internal composition of a course will protect the right of students to complete the course within the normal timeframe and will not result in additional cost to students through a requirement to undertake additional units.
