This course is not available to International Onshore Students on Student Visas
Introduction
This course is designed especially for graduates currently working within the minerals industry who wish to formally upgrade their metallurgical knowledge with a view to furthering their careers in this field. It provides graduates from disciplines other than metallurgy with knowledge and understanding of selected areas of extractive metallurgy.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
An Australian recognised Advanced Diploma or Bachelors Degree in an engineering or science discipline, excluding extractive metallurgy or equivalent qualifications. Applicants may also be considered on the basis of other qualifications and relevant experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This course is of six months full-time or equivalent part-time study. External study is available.
Course Organisation
This course provides basic knowledge in three subject areas fundamental to extractive metallurgy, namely in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy plus another area such as process control, engineering metallurgy and finance and management. Each student's selection of units (subjects) must be approved by the course co-ordinator, after consultative consideration of the student's background and educational needs.
Career Opportunities
Graduates can expect to obtain employment within the minerals industry in the area of extractive metallurgy, or to further their current careers in extractive metallurgy within the minerals industry.
