It provides graduates from disciplines other than metallurgy with knowledge and understanding of selected areas of extractive metallurgy. Course Entry Requirements/PrerequisitesAn Australian recognised Advanced Diploma or Bachelors Degree in an engineering or science discipline, excluding extractive metallurgy or equivalent qualifications. Applicants may also be considered on the basis of other qualifications and relevant experience. Recognition of Prior LearningApplications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Duration and AvailabilityThis course is of six months full-time or equivalent part-time study. External study is available. Course OrganisationThis course provides basic knowledge in three subject areas fundamental to extractive metallurgy, namely in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy plus another area such as process control, engineering metallurgy and finance and management. Each student's selection of units (subjects) must be approved by the course co-ordinator, after consultative consideration of the student's background and educational needs. Career OpportunitiesGraduates can expect to obtain employment within the minerals industry in the area of extractive metallurgy, or to further their current careers in extractive metallurgy within the minerals industry.
