301547 v.2 Development Studies Minor

Introduction

This minor focuses on social, political and economic transformations, particularly those in developing countries. It is intended to equip students with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to pursue careers in national and international government, non government and private agencies that have a focus on community development, aid and social justice. The minor examines a range of development theories, including early modernisation theory, dependency theories and world system theories, as well as more recent postmodernist critiques of development theories. Themes covered include rural and urban development, and postcolonial development in the Asia-Pacific region.
